Pourshare Split tonight

Tip pools & tip-outs, at close

Split the night’s tips to the cent.

Type in the jar, the card tips and who worked. Pourshare takes the tip-outs off first, shares the pool by hours or points, puts whole dollars in each envelope and sends the rest to payroll. Every cent lands with someone.

The order of the night

Four steps, always in this order.

  1. 01

    The tips

Cash from the jar, card tips from the report. If your house takes the card processing fee out of card tips, say how much; it comes off the card part only.

  2. 02

    Tip-outs first

Bussers, runners, hosts or the bar get their share before the pool: a percentage of tips or of sales, shared inside the role by hours.

  3. 03

    The pool

What is left is shared by hours, by role points, by hours × points, or equally. Rounded by the largest-remainder method, so the shares add up exactly.

  4. 04

    Envelopes & payroll

Whole dollars of cash for each person with the bills to use, and the rest on payroll. Print a sign-off sheet for signatures.

From the sample above

The envelopes, counted for you.

Cash goes out in whole dollars, never more than the jar holds. The cents, and any dollar nobody can take whole, stay with the house and are added to payroll, so nobody is short and the drawer still balances.

  • Ana$110.005 × $20 1 × $10
  • Marcus$102.005 × $20 2 × $1
  • Jo$118.005 × $20 1 × $10 1 × $5 3 × $1
  • Dee$62.003 × $20 2 × $1
  • Sam$20.001 × $20

Managers stay out

Tick a manager or supervisor and they get nothing from the tips. U.S. law does not let employers, managers or supervisors keep any part of employees’ tips (FLSA 3(m)(2)(B)).

Shown, not hidden

Every tip-out, the pool, each share, the cash and the payroll part are on one page, with each person’s tips per hour. Anyone on the crew can check the math.
